Guys,

I have recently bought a swift and now I am looking for some advice to set up the audio system in the car. To start with, I have a budget of around 50k ( can further push it by couple of grands). Following is the configuration which I was looking at :-

1. HU :- Clarion DXZ786USB
2. FS (Components) :- Hertz ESK 165
3. RS (Co-Axial) :- Hertz ECX 570 or 690

Now here comes the confusion.
1. I need to install a SW, I was looking at the Hertz EBX 300, but if I go for it the budget would go off the roof. As I checked this would cost me around 16k. Is there any other SW which I can consider for the install?
2. For above should I opt for a single 5 channel amp? or a 4 channel + a separate mono amp is recommended?
3. For damping what material should I be using? I know of dynamat but again they are a bit on the expensive side, so what else is recommended?
4. This one is for guys from Mumbai. I am new to the city and dont really know where to get the installation done. For the speakers and HU and I can check with the distributors of respective companies and can source the reliable genuine products but not sure where should I get my installation done from.

Please advice.

Regards

@Audiophile, Nice configuration.
Regarding the pricing part, Hertz EBX 300 is really good in terms of enclosure design. But, I must say, once can choose a good sealed enclosure and use Hertz sub and get good bass too. While choosing custom/local enclosures, I prefer sealed enclosures. They perform better as its not complex to build them compared to vented or bandpass ones.

So, thats one alternative to factory enclosure and saves quite a bit of cost. Say, Polk Audio DB 1240 (SVC) in a 1.25 cu. ft. sealed enclosure will come in 9K.

I would prefer 4-ch + 1-mono, if you are not tight on budget. Orelse, you can simply use a single 4-ch amp and power fronts & sub, running the rears from HU directly ("Rear-fills scenario", which has been liked by many enthusiasts). Remember, for sub woofers, nothing can perform better than a mono!

Damping !! Difficult question. Smiley Dynamat is too costly. There's one mat from DLS, that cost nearly Rs. 500-550/sq.ft.; It is asphalt based and requires heating while applying.
In Bangalore, we do use yet another local mat and our customers have reported that it performs better than NoiseKill (another mat in the market). It costs 350/sq.ft.

Look for mats made in butyl rubber and bitumen layer stuffing. They are usually "peel and stick" type and are quite effective and almost comparable to asphalt based ones, but with less health hazards!

I am not from Mumbai Smiley

Hi Raghu,

Thanks for the reply man.

I think its sensible to go for a sealed custom enclosure with a good woofer, it would save couple of grands for sure plus it should perform descent as well. So I would keep this open for now and would survey the market once before I decide on something.

For the Amp, the Hertz guy gave me a quote of around 16k for a 5 channel amp. 4 ch+ mono is too tempting but again would need to stick to my budget Sad . I would still keep this option open, if I can manage two amps within 16k I can definately consider it.

For damping, I will take your advise too and keep my eyes open. I think I need tos urvey the market here and then decide on what to go for.

@ Mumbaikars .... come on guys help me out! Please do suggest some reliable grages to go to for the installation.

Regards

@Audiophile, Welcome to Mumbai. Which part of mumbai you stay? There are few good installers in mumbai. You can easily locate Santacruz.. there checkout FM Drive on Linking Road. Contact Mr. Pankaj.

Check this http://mumbai.justdial.com/f-m-drive_santacruz-west_Mumbai_zCkLiG9xsdphekyvPrsq.htm.

Another installer is Boom Audio in Bandra (http://maps.google.co.in/maps/place?hl=en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=boom+bandra+mumbai&fb=1&gl=in&hq=boom&hnear=Bandra+West,+Mumbai,+Maharashtra&cid=12299771062958593461)

Guys,

Finally the ICE installation in my car is complete.

Vivek: I bought in your advice and went for the installation at FM drive and it was fantastic. Pankaj was really helpful and the quality of the install was top notch.

Raghu: I went ahead with your idea of having a 4 channel amp, powering the front components and the Sub and I am pretty pleased with the results.

Here is my final set-up

1. HU : Clarion DXZ786USB
2. FS : Morel Dotech Ovation 6"
3. RS : DLS Co-Axials 6X9
4. Amp: Focal Solid 4
5. Sub: Image Dynamics 10"
6. Wiring: Ground Zero

Plus got the front two doors damped.  Grin

Guys thanks again for your advice on the set-up.

Cheers
